I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty and it had the ignition cylinder replaced once 2 years ago. Once again it has failed.

Now, out of warranty I'm trying to fix it myself.

The problem is when you put the key in the ignition it will not turnThe key will not turn at all.

I've tried moving the steering wheel around and checked and wiggled the shift lever.  Its an auto tranny.

I did try a little powdered graphite to no avail.

This is real irritating and I was wondering if it is a common problem on this jeep model or if I've just got a bit of a lemon?

My brother had this same problem.

However,he took off all the rest of the keys on his chain and made sure he didn't use muscle to crank over his car. He has not had a problem in 5 years.

A mechanic told him this is a common problem with the extra weight and swing on the key lock. Also, men seem to over turn the key too forcefully when starting the car.

Good luck.
