Be cautious of debt consolidators soliciting by telephone.

A debt consolidator contacted me by phone.  They said that they could consolidate my bills, save me money, and give me a lower interest rate.  I gave them all of the creditors that I owed money to, their addresses, account numbers, and balances that I owed.

I had to let them take a direct deposit out of my checking account of $221.37.

I told them that I didn't want them to take a direct deposit out of my bank because I have already been done wrong by another debt consolidation company.  The representative told me no problem.  He told me he would take out only a one time amount of $221.37.  He would bill me for the rest, send me a monthly bill, and I didn't have to make any more payments.

They said that would work with all the creditors.

I would still receive statements every month showing balances going down.

But instead, they didn't do either.  Now I am behind on my bills.
